This is what we recommend: If you enjoy 72 degrees, for example, then set the thermostat to about 75 to 77 degrees, then turn the fan on in the room you are in. The fan should cool down your skin and make the room feel a few degrees cooler.

MYTH: Turning the Thermostat Below Target Level Cools Room Faster

Air conditioners work at one speed. Setting the thermostat at below your target level is only going to make the air conditioner work longer. If you want to save money, then set the thermostat at your target level or even a few degrees higher and supplement your occupied room with a fan.

MYTH: Turning Off the Air Conditioner When You Are Not Home Saves Money
