Signs It's Time To Call Your Plumber

There are certain plumbing repair jobs that most people can handle on their own. For example, cleaning hair out of the shower drain, or plunging the kitchen sink. However, there are a lot of other plumbing repair jobs that should be saved for the professionals. Mostly because of safety concerns, but also because you want to have the job done right the first time. Before a plumbing problems sets in, there are often signs. Knowing what to look for can really save you time, stress, and money. Here are some signs it's time to call your plumber.

The Sound of Running or Dripping Water

The sound of running or dripping water is one of the signs it's time to call your plumber. This could be one of the first noticeable signs that you have a leak somewhere. Pay particular attention if you notice the sound without having run any water recently. This could mean there is a leak somewhere behind closed walls or under the floor. Hidden leaks can be particularly cumbersome and if left undetected can cause a lot of damage. If you notice the sound of running or dripping water when there shouldn’t be any, it is a sign you should call your plumber just to be on the safe side.

Unexplained Puddles of Water

Just like running and dripping water, unexplained puddles of water could also be an indication of a leak somewhere. Puddles of water on the ground could be a sign of a slab leak. Puddles of water around the water heater could mean the water heater is getting ready to give out. Outside, if you notice saturated ground or areas of grass that are more lush than others, you could have a sewer leak. These are all cause for concern, and should be addressed right away.

Discolored Water

Discolored water is as unpleasant as it sounds. The condition of your water is often caused by sediment buildup, but it can also be caused by broken water lines or construction. For example, brown colored water could be caused by iron buildup inside your water heater. It is a good idea to call your plumber to inspect your water heater. In addition, if you water carries a funny smell, it could be from the different chemicals your municipality uses to treat the water. If it bothers you, you may want to invest in a whole house water filtration system.

Recurring Clogs

If you toilets keep backing up, or all of your sinks have slow drainage, there could be a serious plumbing problem afoot. A major obstruction or damage from tree roots needs to be addressed by a professional. Contact your plumber right away.

Water Pressure Issues

If you are suffering from poor water pressure, it is a good idea to call your plumber. There could be a clog somewhere or a faulty pressure regulator. Either way, this isn’t a problem you should have to live with. Likewise if you have too much water pressure, there could be damage to your plumbing pipes and fixtures. You may need to have a water pressure valve installed. If you are having water pressure issues, be it too little or too much, call your plumber. Plumbing problems can be a real pain, putting off repairs or cutting corners can only make the problem worse.
