Common Water & Plumbing Myths

Water and plumbing are things in our lives that we talk about often and while you talk about things, you usually find a number of ideas and beliefs that so many people share, but not all of them are true, some are just myths that get passed on from person to person and from one group to another. Here we will reveal some of those common plumbing myths and water myths, along with the facts.

Water Myth: Bottled Water is Better Than Water in the Kitchen Tap

First of all, most water bottling companies do not actually get their water from springs, most of them get the same water you have running through your tap and make an attempt at purifying it and they add some nutrients. But you should also know that this water is put in plastic bottles which have the ability to invite harmful chemicals into the water so it is debatable if that water is safer than the kitchen water. At the same time, the pipes in your home may not be as clean as the water bottle. In short, it is a bit of a gamble when it comes to choosing the safest of the two.

Plumbing Myth: If Water is Flowing Through the Drain, it is Not Clogged

This is one of the most common plumbing myths which is why many people will not realize how clogged their drain pipes are until they are totally blocked. There are other ways to tell that a drain is blocked, you could look out for a bad smell coming from the drain which would mean something is stuck in there and rotting. A clogged drain may still allow water to go through but it will drain slower than usual and you may hear a gurgling sound as the water goes through or you may even see bubbles as the water goes through.

Water Myth: 8 Glasses of Water is the Optimum Amount of Water to Drink Every Day

There is no concrete evidence to support this myth that is spread by a lot of people. The truth is that the amount of water you need to drink may depend on your size, age, alcohol intake, physical health, the activity you engage in that day as well as the temperature. If you are sweating a lot, you will need to drink more water to replace what you are losing. It should, however, be stated that you still need to drink water during winter because you still lose water and you just do not notice.

Plumbing Myth: A Leaking Tap is Nothing to Worry About

For many, a leaky tap is simply annoying and the amount of water being lost is negligible. This is not true. If you calculate the amount of water you would lose in a year if the tap kept on leaking, you will realize it is no longer negligible. A leaky faucet needs to be tightened to stop the loss of water, it will actually get worse if you do not fix it.

Plumbing Myth: You Can Fix any Clog with a Plunger

Many homeowners believe if they have a plunger, clogging is not an issue. While plungers take care of most simple clogs in the home, clogs that occur deeper in the pipes need a plumber to unclog. Call us now to hire a professional plumber to take care of all your plumbing needs.
