Check the Thermostat

The thermostat is the regulating device that senses the temperature of a system and activates the heating or cooling systems. If the thermostat is faulty, then you can have an HVAC system constantly running in the wrong direction. Test your thermostat to make sure it is displaying accurate temperature readings.

If you have a programmable thermostat, then now is a good time to adjust the settings for the upcoming cooler months. Keeping the same settings as the summer can overwork your HVAC system and spike your energy bills.

Change the Air Filters

If you want a fresh of breath air, then change those air filters! We recommend that homeowners replace the air filter at least once every two to three months. A good way to keep up with this maintenance item is to change the filter at the start of each season. Plus, changing the air filter is quick and easy. It is also a simple way to save on energy bills and keep your HVAC from a system failure.

Clean Vents, Coils, and Blower Motor

Some experts estimate that 1/100th of an inch of dust buildup on the coil and blower motor can result in a 10% loss of efficiency. This translates into poor ventilation as well as higher energy bills. Clogged evaporator coils can even cause a system failure. If you do not regularly clean the vents, coils, and blow motor, you could even end up dealing with mold and mildew growth. Yuck!

You can clean the vents and registers with a vacuum or dusting cloth and use compressed air to tackle dirt and debris buildup on coils. Compressed air can be powerful, so keep the nozzle at least two to three inches away from the coils to prevent bending the fragile fins.

Clear the Way

Trim bushes and shrubs that are growing around your outdoor unit. Further, with leaves coming down during the fall season, your outdoor unit is likely to be covered in leaves, twigs, and other debris. Get out there and make sure nothing is obstructing your HVAC unit.

Schedule Your Routine Maintenance

There is a difference between basic maintenance and professional maintenance. Don’t forget to schedule your annual or biennial maintenance to make sure your unit’s components are in tip-top shape. Rooter Hero Plumbing is thrilled to offer reliable, affordable, and accessible HVAC repair, maintenance, replacements, and installations. Call now to speak with a live representative.
