HVAC Tips You Should Know

The HVAC system is so effective and efficient that it can be easy to take it for granted. Be mindful and avoid complacency if you want to enjoy the convenience of your HVAC for more years to come. Routine maintenance and timely repairs are crucial if you want to avoid a premature HVAC replacement. In this article brought to you by Rooter Hero, we will provide some tips on how to take care of your HVAC. If the damage has been done and you need an HVAC contractor, then call Rooter Hero to schedule an HVAC or air conditioner repair. Our live representatives are on standby to take your call.

Make Way

Your HVAC system treats and moves A LOT of air through the building. Obstructions in the path of that air can cause a lot of trouble. These blockages are not necessarily in the vents and air ducts though. Check around vents, registers, and air handlers for furniture, carpets, and other things that may be restricting air flow. Also check outdoor components to make sure leaves, twigs, and other debris are not getting in the way.

Change Dirty Air Filters

Air filters play a crucial role in keeping the airways free of blockages and dust. These filters catch debris before it has a chance to enter the ducts, cause blockages, and contaminate the inside air quality. Naturally, the air filter is going to get grimy as it accumulates dust, dirt, and debris. A dirty air filter is counterproductive as it ends up clogging the path for air and makes your HVAC work harder than it needs to. Change dirty air filters once every three months if you want to continue enjoying clean air and a functional HVAC system.

Test the Thermostat

The thermostat is the eyes and ears of the HVAC system. Periodically test the thermostat to make sure it is working properly. Adjust the settings to see if the system responds accordingly. You may need to replace your thermostat’s battery once per year. If your thermostat is not functioning, then make sure to replace it as soon as possible. The technicians at Rooter Hero can help with this process.

Don’t Shut It Off

Do you shut off the HVAC system when you leave for work or school? If so, you are probably doing it to conserve energy. This is a common mistake.

The air conditioner and heating system actually use a lot of energy on start-up. Instead of shutting it down completely, leave the HVAC system on a low setting (high temperature during the summer and low temperature during the winter). Plus, turning the heater completely off during the winter can put your plumbing pipes at risk of freezing. Keep indoor temperatures above freezing to reduce such risk.

Schedule Routine Maintenance and Tune-Ups

There are many components in the HVAC system, and each part is susceptible to corrosion, wear and tear, and accidental damage. Routine maintenance and tune-ups are crucial if you want to catch vulnerabilities or nip issues in the bud. Call Rooter Hero to schedule your annual HVAC maintenance today.
